We are living in a materialistic era, where often our needs are influenced by our peer groups. We hardly spend anything based on our real needs; most of our expenses are impulsive in nature and later on regret that the same could have been avoided – but it is too late.

Once a client of mine came to meet me 14 years ago, who was working in software industry. Post discussions I casually enquired on his expenditure model and also about his future aspirations. He was not even married then. During the discussion I was shocked to hear that his mobile expenditure per month was Rs.10000/-. Those days outgoing calls, sms were all charged. If I am right even incoming calls were charged or so if the calls were to be from other telecom operators, barring your own operator or so. Much after the discussions and guidance he reluctantly agreed to start an SIP for Rs 5000/- per month by reducing his mobile bill expenses by 5000. Being now aware of his unnecessary expenditure, he immediately started the SIP for Rs.5000.  3 months went on and I called him to check what was happening, he said that true to the vow he had taken, he reduced the mobile expenses to Rs.5000 and was happy in continuing the SIP for Rs.5000 he had started. Thereon the SIP was going through without much deliberations or discussions. Post this event, when he went through different phase of life cycles, this SIP and its accumulation helped him to achieve various dreams of life, such as his own marriage expenses, meeting out the margin money requirements to buy a car, house etc., Even today the SIP is continuing and he has started various SIPs to meet other financial goals of his life such as retirement planning, children education and their life betterment in many dimensions.

The above fact of life of my client reminds me of the famous saying “A Stitch in time saves Nine”.

The most important point am driving here is like you need a doctor, a chartered accountant, a lawyer, please note that you need to have a financial advisor too.

Do you have one, please call him for all your needs, discuss with him, be aware and then take the right decision. Am sure if you follow this process you will never regret in your life for your financial decisions. BETTER LATE THAN NEVER.
