The festival of lights, deepavali falls on 31st of October 2024 is known to us.
For this important festival, many people would be going to their native places to be with their families and friends. It must be remembered that pongal and deepavali are two major festivals for the people belonging to TN and many go to their hometowns to celebrate these festivals. People plan their trips to their hometowns well in advance.
Point is that the advance ticket bookings for the commuters began on 30th June and on 1st July 2024.
The sensational piece of news is that within 5 minutes the train ticket bookings for deepavali journey on 30th October got completed. Yesterday, 2nd July, advance booking began at 8am in the morning especially for those who would be going to their hometowns on 30th of October.
The advance train ticket bookings took place in the IRCTC website plus at the booking counters present in the railway stations. It is worth noting that in trains from Chennai to places like Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Madurai etc, the ticket bookings for second class sleeper got completed within 5 minutes. Point is that in these above said trains the waiting list ended at 11am itself and `regret` was shown.
There were 313 on the waiting list for Muthu Nagar express train (Chennai to Thoothukudi) and 266 on the waiting list for Kanyakumari express trains( Chennai to Kanniyakumari) and 296 in the waiting list for Ananthapuri express (Chennai to Trivandrum).
Even in the daytime running trains, the advance booking of tickets was completed quickly and the waiting list came. From morning 6am itself, many people waited in the queues in Egmore railway station and Central railway station to book their tickets in advance. Information is that the first three persons who stood in the queues only received train tickets and the rest didn`t receive and they were disappointed.
Now, there is an important demand from the people. They want the announcement of special trains for festivals like diwali etc earlier itself for their convenience.
