TN Colleges to Increase Seats in Arts and Science: Guidelines Issued!

The Higher Education Department has issued guidelines to colleges following the announcement to increase seat capacity in Arts and Science colleges. Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudy revealed that due to the high number of Class XII students with good marks unable to secure admissions, government colleges will add 20% more seats, government-aided colleges 15%, and self-financing institutions 10%.
Colleges are instructed to admit additional students based on the recent rank list from the Directorate of Collegiate Education. The guidelines specify that institutions wanting to admit more students should not demand additional faculty recruitment from the government. Affiliated universities must grant prior approval for these admissions.
"This increase applies only for this academic year," stated a senior directorate official, noting that the government will reassess annually. Students may receive spot admissions based on merit lists and can seek assistance from student facilitation centers established across districts.
