Three government based engineering colleges in places like Vellore, Thanjavur and Trichy might soon join Anna University and some deemed universities in Tamil Nadu.
The news that has emerged is that additive manufacturing labs would be established for the very first time at the 3 government engineering colleges in the above mentioned places in TN. This was according to the Higher Education Dept.
It was later revealed by a senior official belonging to HED that the proposed lab would provide students with an environment to create 3D models from CAD or computer aided design data.
With assistance from State Industries Dept ad educationists etc, the additive manufacturing labs would operate. The TN govt has allocated Rs 1 cr each to the govt engineering colleges in Vellore, Thanjavur and Trichy.
It is noteworthy that 3D printing additive manufacturing is a fast emerging technology now. Here, a product would be manufactured easier and faster than other conventional manufacturing technologies.
3D printing applications:
Information gathered is that 3D printing technologies are being used in automobile, aerospace, defence and biomedical applications. It is important to note that each lab would have 3D printers, CNC simulators, CAD software, 3D scanner, laser cutting and engraving to meet the needs of current industries etc. The labs would improve the knowledge and skills of engineers who are involved in operation of 3D scanners, 3D printers etc.
Who all will be benefited?
Those students who are studying mechanical engineering, mechatronics, manufacturing and production engineering would be benefited widely by additive manufacturing these labs.
