Erecting a new ramp at Thiruvanmiyur Beach - Things to know!!

Differently abled persons also have the equal rights to visit beaches in Chennai. In this regard, the Chennai Corporation has floated a tender to construct a pathway for them at the Thiruvanmiyur Beach for Rs 1.18cr under the Singara Chennai project. Information gathered is that it would be the third ramp for the differently able persons to help them to visit beaches in Chennai.

It must be recalled that in the highly famous Marina Beach Chennai Corporation has erected a ramp to help the differently able persons to visit the beach. At Elliot`s Beach in Besant Nagar also, the Chennai Corporation has erected a ramp. An amount of Rs 1.61 cr was spent for these.

Point is that following the major beaches the Chennai Corporation is planning to construct a wooden ramp for the differently able persons in Thiruvanmiyur Beach in the Adyar zone or Zone 13 for Rs 1.18 cr. The notice mentioned that a tender would be opened on 12th February around 3:30am.

It is learnt that the construction materials for the wooden ramp are red Meranti, Babool and Brazilian IPE wood. Point is that differently able persons have asked GCC to use better quality products that would be able to withstand severe weather changes etc. A request has been made to GCC regarding the public using this pathway and damaging it.

As per a differently able person TN govt constructs many ramps due to ecological reasons. She spoke about how multiple damages were present in the ramps at Marina Beach and how the civic body has not taken immediate steps. She concluded that the state government must consider extending the project at beaches present in Tamil Nadu.
