Starting Monday, February 17, 2025, several new rules for FASTag will be implemented to streamline toll payments and prevent fraud, as per the latest circulars from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

Key Changes in FASTag Rules:

Blacklisted FASTags: If a FASTag is blacklisted when reaching a toll booth, the payment will not be processed. Additionally, any tag blacklisted at least 10 minutes before scanning will also be declined.

Grace Period for Users: A 70-minute grace period will be provided for users to rectify their FASTag status before crossing the toll booth.

Penalty for Blacklisted FASTags: If a FASTag is blacklisted upon reaching the toll booth, the user must pay double the toll charges. However, if the recharge is done within 10 minutes of scanning, a penalty refund can be requested.

Delayed Transactions: Extra charges may apply if a toll transaction is processed more than 15 minutes after the vehicle passes the toll reader.

Chargeback Policy: Banks can raise chargebacks for incorrect deductions related to blacklisted or low-balance FASTags only after a 15-day cooling period.

How to Avoid FASTag Issues:

Maintain Sufficient Balance: Keep enough funds in your FASTag wallet to prevent transaction failures.

Check FASTag Status: Ensure the tag is active and not blacklisted before travel.

Monitor Transactions: Keep track of toll payments and check for any delays in deductions.

Avoid Inactivity: Regularly use your FASTag to prevent rejections due to inactivity.

These new guidelines aim to improve the efficiency and security of toll transactions for FASTag users nationwide.
