On 5th of May, 160th convocation of Madras University would take place

Established in the year 1857, the University of Madras has been doing sensationally in producing many students are well known.

The superb piece of news that has come out now is 160th convocation of this popular University of Madras would take place on 5th May 2018. This convocation would have one special guest and he is none other than Indian president Mr. Ram Nath Kovind. The convocation would begin at 10:30 in the morning and would go till 11:30 am for one hour and this function would see many students getting their convocations.

Mr. P. Duraisamy who is the vice-chancellor of University of Madras expressed his views and said University of Madras is currently celebrating its 160th year.

He also spoke about how president of India would be giving endowment medals, gold medals plus prizes for the winners of the 160th year logo competition. Convocation address would be delivered by the president on that day. It has been the normal procedure for many years that PhD scholars and gold medal winners receive the degrees from the chief guest.

It is now brought out that since the function would be held for just one hour it would not be possible for the president to give degree certificates to all the toppers.

Thousands of students and around 700 PhD scholars would be getting their degrees at the convocation on 5th of May.

To organise this convocation function in a grand manner, committees with syndicate members plus teaching and non-teaching staffs are also formed and it would be superb.

During the 100th year celebrations of this popular University of Madras, the then PM of India Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru played his part and laid foundation stone for centenary auditorium and centenary building is known. In the 125th year celebrations the then president Mr. Zail Singh made his presence felt as the chief guest. It must not be forgotten that for the 150th year celebrations, Indian Prime Minster Mr. Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi took part.

To mark the 160th year, University of Chennai has been conducting many conferences, seminars etc from the month of September in 2017 is known.
