Indian batsman Virat Kohli and cricket records are always inseparable!!
On 5th of November at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Indian team played against the top side South Africa in the world cup. Batting first, Indians made 326 for 5 in their allotted 50 overs. Indian captain Rohit Sharma made 40 in just 24 balls and he smashed the South African bowlers to all the corners to give India a great start in the first 10 overs. It would be the knock of 101 not out from Virat kolhi would ever be remembered in the Indian cricket history. The reason for that was it was the 35th birthday of Virat Kohli yesterday.
He along with Shreyas Iyer (who made a sensational 77) took India to a safe and out of reach total. The South African batsmen fell down like a pack of cards to the left arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja. He took 5 wickets and became only the 2nd left arm spinner from India after Yuvraj Singh to take 5 wickets in the world cup match.
On his way to 101 not out, Virat smashed many records. He made his second ton in this ongoing world cup and became just the third batsmen from India after Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma to make 2 or more tons in the single edition of the world cup.
Kohli also made more than 500 runs in this ongoing world cup and it was the first time he had scored more than 500 runs in a single world cup. He also became the highest run scorer for India in wins in international matches across all 3 formats overtaking Sachin Tendulkar. By this hundred yesterday, Kohli joined Ricky Ponting to have scored most 100s in wins across all formats. It was also 79th international 100 from Kohli and he is slowly making progress towards Sachin`s wonderful record of 100 hundreds.
