The superb piece of news is that hereafter, between Tarapore Towers and Periyar Statue on the Anna Salai there would not be any heavy traffic congestion.
It is now brought to light that due ease the traffic congestion here the Chennai traffic police has done away with the right turn for vehicles coming from Wallajah Salai to directly enter Anna Salai and diverted them to take left to make right near Tarapore Towers to Dams Road. They have also diverted the vehicles to Blacker’s Road to reach Anna Salai.
Since Saturday, the new traffic route has been introduced on a trial basis and vehicle movement on Monday. Just the 2 wheelers are allowed now to take U turn near Bata showroom. Mr. J. Rajendran, joint commissioner (traffic) south expressed his thoughts and spoke about how this diversion has eased the traffic congestion at a crucial junction on the Anna Salai.
It is known that the junction on Anna Salai witnesses huge piles of vehicles on both sides of the road during the peak hours. This happens whenever the vehicles from Wallajah Salai are allowed to take right. It is now said that depending on the feedback from motorists for the next few days a proposal would be submitted to make the change permanent or return to the set up that was there before. A survey was conducted by the traffic police at the Wallajah Salai-Anna Salai junction. Information collected is that for every 3 minutes during the peak hour 5600 vehicles ply on both sides on Anna Salai.
