Traffic Advisory for Chennais First On-Street Night Formula Racing Event!

The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) is organizing India`s first on-street night Formula racing event, "Chennai Formula Racing Circuit," from August 30, 2024, to September 1, 2024, around Island Ground, Chennai.

To ensure smooth traffic flow during the event, the following traffic arrangements will be in effect from August 30, 2024, to September 1, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM:

Traffic Arrangements for Vehicles from the South:

1. Kamarajar Salai:

• Vehicles heading towards the War Memorial will be diverted at the Labour Statue to ply via Walajah Road, Anna Salai, Periyar Statue, Central Light Point (near Chennai Central Railway Station), and then towards their destinations.

2. Mount Road:

• Vehicles traveling towards Walajah Point will be diverted at Pallavan Salai towards Central Light Point.

3. Sivanandha Salai and Flag Staff Road:

• These roads will be completely closed to traffic during the event hours.

Traffic Arrangements for Vehicles from the North:

1. Kamarajar Salai towards Santhome:

• No diversions will be made; vehicles can operate as usual.

2. Central Light Point towards Anna Statue:

• Vehicles will operate as usual up to the Pallavan Salai junction. From Pallavan Salai junction to Periyar Statue, vehicles will ply on the opposite track and will return to the normal track at Periyar Statue.

3. Muthusamy Point:

• Vehicles will not be allowed to ply towards Flag Staff Road or Anna Salai. Instead, they will be diverted towards Central Light Point. From there, vehicles can either turn left onto Pallavan Salai or go straight to reach their destinations.

Restrictions for Heavy Vehicles and Light Commercial Vehicles:

• Heavy vehicles and light commercial vehicles are strictly prohibited from entering the area around Island Ground, Wallajah Road, Anna Salai, Kamarajar Salai, EVR Salai, RA Mandram, Muthusamy Point, and Parrys Corner from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

The Greater Chennai Traffic Police requests motorists and the public to cooperate with these arrangements to ensure the success of this prestigious event.
