Shocking!! Khader Nawaz Khan Road or KNK Road in Chennai - Once a hub for upmarket retail is now in shambles!!
If you have passed through the busy Khader Nawaz Khan Road or KNK in Nungambakkam in Chennai recently, then you have got a huge shock!!
This was once a gentrified locality in the city but now in a pathetic state and in shambles. What happened?
The poor parking facility, ongoing SWD works and bad roads have made this KNK Road in disarray now. It is worthy to note that this locality in Chennai has high rental cost plus high real estate value and despite these the locality is in a poor condition. Point is that there were no proper amenities like pavements or goods roads. In addition, the construction materials have been left lying around. There is no timeline when these works would get over and the civic body has not bothered about the grievances of the public.
There are no pavements here due to SWD work that has been going on. It is really shocking to note that KNK Road, which was once popular for proper roads and wide pavements, now doesn`t even have the basic infrastructure.
It was brought out by a frequent user of KNK Road that the SWD works would have to be carried out faster. He hinted that provisions must be made for the safety of pedestrians and motorists etc. Traffic congestion is heavy in this area and it has even created lots of issues for many.
It was suggested by a resident that the presence of a multi level car parking would be superb here as KNK Road is expected to cater to an upscale crowd.
Point to be noted is that there was a proposal to build a pedestrian plaza for a 0.65km stretch on the KNK Road at an estimated cost of Rs 19.81 cr under the Chennai Mega Streets Initiative of GCC.
