Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds struck various parts of Chennai and its suburbs on Wednesday morning, bringing much-needed relief from the scorching summer heat.

Areas such as Ponneri, Minjur, and Pulicat experienced intense showers, while several parts of the city including Anna Nagar, Egmore, Vepery, Kolathur, and nearby localities received early morning rainfall. The downpour continued in several regions, causing waterlogging in low-lying areas.

By noon, Avadi and surrounding neighborhoods also reported heavy rains, adding to the wet weather conditions across the metropolitan area.

The gusty winds that accompanied the showers posed challenges for motorists across Chennai. In one incident, a large advertisement banner was torn down by the wind and fell onto a power line, leading to disruption in electricity supply in the affected area.

Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has issued a weather bulletin forecasting light to moderate rain in nine districts of Tamil Nadu till 1 PM today.

According to the RMC:
- Moderate thunderstorms and lightning with moderate rain are likely in one or two places in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu districts.
- Light thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rain are also expected in parts of Ranipet, Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Virudhunagar, and Ramanathapuram districts.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions during this period of unstable weather.
