The Department of Posts has launched a paperless e-KYC system, enabling Aadhaar-based biometric authentication for opening savings accounts and other transactions at post offices.
Trial Implementation:
- Chennai City Region: Implemented in 20 head post offices, including Chennai, Vellore, and Tiruvannamalai.
- Reduces paperwork and waiting time for customers.
Future Expansion:
- 700 biometric devices to be procured.
- System to be extended to 570 post offices within a month.
Additional Services:
- Supports recurring deposits and Selvamagal Semippu Thittam.
- Facilitates digital payments via India Postal Payments Bank.
Special Savings Camps:
Locations: Chennai North and Tambaram.
Dates: February 28 & March 10.
Goal: Open 10,000 more Selvamagal Semippu Thittam accounts by March.
Achieved 10 lakh accounts since 2015.
