British deputy high commissioner Bharat Joshi was here in Chennai to the launch the new UK visa application centre on Commander-In-Chief Road. He said that student visa applications to the UK had witnessed a 20% slump last year and attributed it to the falling value of the rupee and amendments in the Britain legislature pertaining to educational institutions in the UK. There were 32,000 Indian students in the United Kingdom till the end of last December.

Joshi while speaking said   “The UK aims to be India’s partner of choice. That includes offering the best visa service for genuine applicants. The new centre has an array of facilities, including a courier service for a faster turnaround of applications in as little as 24 hours’’
