Reports from a recent survey points that employers make use of Social Media as a background-check tool for hiring candidates and in more than 68 per cent cases, they decide against hiring a candidate after finding negative details on their social media pages.
The survey was carried out by CareerBuilder India, a job site based in the country. According to this, 59 per cent of employers prefer using social media pages to assess the candidate, and 33 per cent have plans to access the platform very soon.
Interestingly, over 68 per cent candidates are not picked for job mainly because of negative content found on their social media pages. The survey was conducted with responses from over 1200 companies across the country. Search Engines like Google are used to identify potential candidates by 75 per cent of employers, the survey added.
Poor communication skills, lie about qualification, provocative posts and photographs, publicizing confidential details of the candidate’s previous employers, etc contributed to the reason behind rejection of candidates assess through social media pages. Furthermore, posts about their drinking or drug habits, criminal behavior, etc are other reasons.
