How to prepare a job application?

It is essential to know how to send application for a job.

Applicatons sent on e-mail should have Font size 10 or 12. The Font can be Times New Roman or Ariel. Horizontal and vertical methods should be avoided.

Application should me made on A4 size paper. Applications should not be copied from others. You are likely to get caught from some questions asked during the interview as the interviewers will find out that the application is a copied one.

Same font size should be maintained through the entire application. It is not proper to change the font size ot making certain words in ’bold’ format. The gap between lines should be 1.5. Laser print should be used for printing. Avoid printing on both sides of the paper.

  • Photograph should be attached only if asked for. 80% of the face should be visible on the photograph. The background should be white. Always keep 3-4 passport size photographs as it would be extremely handy.
  • Ensure that the the application is signed and dated. It is estimated that 5 out of 10 individuals forget to sign on their applications! Take 2 copies of the application.
  • Please read and revise the application to note any errors and correct them. It is even better to show the application to another person and get it corrected.
  • Ensure that correct telephone and cell phone numbers, present and permanent full postal address and e-mail address are entered in the application.
  • Give full details of the qualification. Eg: B. E. (Electrical Engineering).
  • The details regarding educational qualifications and experience should be complete. Please do not give any speciality or skill that you are not aware about.
  • It is better to attach the application with a covering letter.
  • Some companies do not accept e-mail attachment. So, better read the requirement carefully and send the application as per employer’s requirement.
  • A complete application as per above suggestions will earn good respect and response!
