Telecom majors have come up with plans to decentralize their networks and hence are creating customer desks in tier 2 and 3 cities. This is expected to create more hiring in rural areas by over 20 per cent. Compared to other places, rural areas show more retention and have the feasibility to hire at lower costs. Though these students are not readily talented, giving them necessary training is absolutely easy and hence a good amount of hiring will take place at such places, said Sunil Goel, executive search firm Global Hunt’s managing director.

In addition to the above beneficial factors, the physical infrastructure rates and recurring costs would also be comparatively lesser. Being tough to maintain retention of employees in metro cities, hiring candidates from rural areas will be better choice, he adds. In fact, many other industries including insurance and healthcare have also slewed towards hiring in rural areas. Sunil Goel also added that there are a number of competitors in the telecom industry and that over 50 to 6 per cent users are from non-metro regions.
