The state government has failed to meet its deadline in executing the monorail project.
As per the project’s plan, on Monday the government has to shortlist the
bids from the companies. But we are not adept to pick up the companies to
retail the bids, said the monorail division officer of the Metropolitan
Transport Corporation.
Only two companies namely Essel and Scomi, Gammon and IL&FS
Transportation Network displayed its concern towards the tender requesting the
proposal (RFP) given by the state
transport department on March. Once analyzing the bid by the tender scrutiny
committee, it was found that both were unfit to meet the technical standards.
Hence government activities have been hindered for the next phase of work.
This tender scrutiny committee comprises of officials from several
department including finance, highways, law and Chennai Metro Rail; also this
team says that they are not aware of the authoritative date on which they can
opt the contractor.
This has been the final project approved and signed in by the transport secretary Braj Kishore Prasad, before reaching the post of Additional home secretary in the Union home ministry department, said sources from the secretariat.
