With the recent boom in economy and plentiful job openings, there is a dip in craze towards management studies in the past two years. The total number of applicants for Common Admission Test (CAT) was 2.14 lakh in 2012. This has drastically come down to 1.97 lakh this year.
According to Prof. Rohit Kapoor, convener of CAT 2014 and professor at Indian Institute of Management (IIT), Indore, the number of applicants is higher by 3000 compared to last year.
As there is more number of jobs available for the students, they prefer to work at least for one year before they step into a B-school. According to the perspectives of one of the final year B.Tech Computer Science student, B-schools prefer to have candidates with minimum 2 years of work experience. This stands as a firm reason for most students to look for job opportunities before they pick higher education in MBA or PG courses.
It’s not just that, students are wise to think about the volatile job market. The scenario prevailing now may completely contrary in another one year. Understanding the swinging nature, students think wise if they will have good work opportunities by the time they graduate in MBA after three years. This holds them back and puts them into a white collar job immediately after stepping out of their under graduation course.
