Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday ordered that all recruitment in the department should be made online. Though it would be implemented in a phased manner, the exercise will be time-bound.
The Minister said, “In order to improve the system of recruitment to match with the best practices so as to maximize objectivity, reduce subjectivity and to enhance credibility, it may be desirable and appropriate to do the entire recruitment exercise including the recruitment examinations on-line.Though efforts have been made to improve the recruitment process, it still fails to inculcate an un-faltered sense of confidence among the candidates, the public quite often, even among the officers associated with the process.”
The move to make recruitment online follows a series of high-profile scams that dented the credibility of the process.
Each year, the railways recruit about 75,000 people in C and D categories.
