Chennai Metro Rail Project: 34% Tunnelling Work Completed

36 km of tunnelling was planned for the Metro Rail Project. 12 Tunnel boring machines were procured. 900 metres to 1000 metres tunnelling work is completed in a month. 12.5 km of tunnelling has been completed till 28th February. This amount sto 34% of the total tunnelling scheduled.

Tunnelling is in progress in the sectons Shenoy Nagar – Thirumangalam, Saidapet – AGDMS, May day Park – Central, and Washermanpet – Egmore.

Tunnelling between Nehru Park and Egmore is completed. Tunnelling between Pachaiyappa’s College and Shenoy Nagar (966 metres), Pachaiyappa’s College and Nehru Park (1,474 metres), and Kilpauk and Nehru park (576 metres) are yet to start.

2,797 metres of tunnelling between Shenoy Nagar and Thirumangalam is completed.4,445 metres of tunnelling work between Washermanpet and Egmore is also completed.

The progress during the month of February was slow. Stpes have been take to speed up the progress. Tunnelling equipment are being shifted to the new work spots.

During the recent meeting on Metro rail project at Delhi, Chennai Metro Rail has been accorded as the best Metro rail builder.
