Metro Rail – Tunnelling work starts for the section between Pachaiyappa’s College and Nehru Park

Metro Rail Project authortities announced that the tunneling work between Pachaiyappa’s College and Nehru Park has commenced.

So far, 14 km of tunneling work has been completed. Tunneling work is continued for the balance 10 km.

The tunneling work between Nehru Park & Egmore and Shenoy Nagar & Anna Nagar Tower is almost complete. The construction of the Railway Stations is in progress.

Metro rail Project has 2 corridors – Washermanpet to Airport and Central Station to St. Thomas Mount, a total of 45 km. 19 Railway stations will be underground.

Tunneling has started for the section between Pachaiyappa’s College and Nehru Park (1474 metres). A tunnel of 200m long, 20m wide, and 23m depth is being made. Boring equipment has been brought to the work spot. Protection walls and concretes floors are being made.

A tunnel of 325 metres has been dug between Pachaiyappa’s College & Kilpauk. The total tunnel is 898 metres long.

The waste material after tunneling is removed every night.
