The question has been raised as to how and on what basis the marks for the students of the +2 (12th Standard) would be evaluated especially as they could not write any of the normally scheduled examinations such as the quarterly & half-yearly examinations as the schools remained closed due to the raging coronavirus pandemic as a preventive measure!
The State Minister for School Education explained in this regard:
“A special committee will be formed consisting of the Chief Secretary of the Department of School Education of the State Government of Tamil Nadu, the Chief Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, the vice-chancellor of Chennai University, and the representatives of the school principals! Once the committee is formed, actions will commence immediately for devising the basis/system of how to allot marks for the 12th Standard students.
The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has also offered some valuable aspects/advice in this regard!
In this scenario, the task of the mark allotment for the students of the 12th Standard is scheduled to be completed in 2 weeks. While devising the evaluation system, the methods adopted by CBSE for evaluation marks for its 12th Standard students will also be considered.
The previous performance of the students will be included as one of the basic factors for evaluation. This is because no other examinations have been conducted in this 1-year period and as such, there are other avenues to evaluate!
We are also receiving suggestions on whether and how to consider the 10th Standard marks of the students or whether and how to include the highest marks scored by the students in their 9th Standard!
With the above, the evaluation will be done quickly and the marks will be announced after that!”
