In the future, don`t be surprised if your semester results get announced quicker!!

It is now said that the TN govt has embarked on a pilot project involving 3 universities for identifying a mechanism to address the problem of long delay in publishing exam results.

To develop a faster evaluation process by turning the semester manuscripts electronic and digitising the evaluation system, the state planning commission has commissioned Alagappa University, Anna University and Thiruvalluvar University now.

The entire semester evaluation process would be made digital just similar to the GRE or Graduate Record Exam of the USA. This was mentioned by some sources. Information collected is that the answer sheets would be scanned at the university level and electronically transferred to the hub. Here, the answer sheets would be embedded and each manuscript would be given a system generated dummy number. Finally, the digitised manuscripts would be electronically sent to the evaluators.

Advantages of this new process:

It is believed that this new process would save both time as well as money to the government. In addition to these, carbon footprint would be reduced by avoiding physically transporting the manuscripts from colleges to universities.

According to a senior officer, the universities have submitted 3 separate projects and based on the inputs a system has been put together. He spoke about how the TN govt would incur a huge recurring expenditure if it engages IT firms services. He concluded that the expertise of own institutions were utilized.

It is important to note that this new process would ensure greater transparency and would help to track any human interface at any level.

Giant scanners to be provided:

The universities would be provided with giant scanners that are capable of scanning 30000 pages per day. Within 10 days from the date of exams, answer sheets would be evaluated by this new process. It is now revealed that this latest technology would be implemented from the current academic year itself. In the planning commission meeting that took place on Tuesday, the working of the systems was presented to the CM of Tamil Nadu.
