Anna University withdraws participation in the counseling for engineering courses

Due to some differences in approach on certain issues with the state government officials of higher education, Anna University has withdrawn from the annual counseling session conducted for admission to the engineering courses.
The vice-chancellor of Anna University was the Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Engineering Education Selection Council. Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary of higher education of the state government of Tamil Nadu, Mangatram Sharma, who was a member of this committee until now, announced himself that he would be the coordinator for the committee.
As a measure to express their opposition to this, M K Surappa, Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Engineering selection Committee and the Chairman of the Tamil Nadu General Postgraduation admission committee, has resigned from these posts. He has sent his resignation letter to the office of the Higher Education Department.
Subsequently, Anna University has withdrawn from participating in the counselling for engineering course admissions for the academic year 2019-20.
Due to the withdrawal of the Anna University, The Technical Education Council is set to conduct the counseling for the engineering courses admission in 2019-20.
Anna University had been conducting the entrance examination and counseling for the admission to the engineering courses offered by the over 500 engineering colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu over the past 22 years.
Over the last few years, Anna University has been conducting the counseling session on a single-window basis and has been improving the quality of the process in many aspects. Especially, the system of online counseling was introduced by Anna University last year.
In this situation, it is noteworthy that due to some differences in approach on certain issues between Anna University and the Secretariat of Higher Education, Anna University has withdrawn participation in the counseling sessions for admission to engineering courses.
