Once when the schools reopen after an extended summer vacation, more than 70lakh students studying in government, government aided schools across TN would get free textbooks. This was mentioned by the release from the school education department.
It is now said that about 60lakhs students would receive free textbooks and 8lakhs students would get atlas maps etc. It is well known to us that the schools would reopen in TN on 10th of June.
For the academic year 2024-25, Tamil Nadu Textbooks and Educational Service Corporation have printed more than 4 crores textbooks and 1.12 textbooks are sales copies for private schools.
On 10th June once schools reopen, the students belonging to classes 3 to class 12 in government/ govt aided schools across TN would be able to open savings accounts with the help of TN school education dept and postal dept to access welfare schemes/scholarships etc.
It seems that the parents were unhappy regarding the whole process to avail scholarships etc. It was pointed out by a parent that the process must not be stressful. He spoke about how running around at the last minute to open bank accounts and get all documents verified etc was not easy.
According to Mr. J. Kumaragurubagan, school education secretary, it was clear that the process would become easier with most work to be carried out in the schools itself. The school students` bank account details must get registered promptly in the EMIS portal or Educational Management Information System portal. For this, the school principals must coordinate Aadhaar registration and updates as per the district schedule, inform the school PTA and management team regarding these processes. Finally, the data would be shared with the postal dept for the opening of the bank accounts.
