Before 31st of December, more than 20 lakhs students studying in the classes 9 to 12 in government and government aided schools across Tamil Nadu would get email ID. It is known that the admissions and other communications in Higher Educational Institutions or HEIS have been made online.
Point to be noted is that the school education dept has decided to create email IDs even for students belonging to class 9 as they would be eligible for admissions in the polytechnic colleges etc after passing class 10 exams.
What is the need for the email IDs?
Since all the Higher Educational Institutions like engineering colleges, polytechnics, arts and sciences colleges etc have been communicating with the students through email for admission information, syllabus, circulars, grievances, notification of semester exams, declaration of holidays and college events etc, it is a necessary to create an email ID for the students. This was mentioned by a senior official. It must be noted that the students belonging to classes 9 to 12 in rural places in TN do not have an email ID and it is essential to create an email id for them.
It is noteworthy that all the headmasters and teachers who have been providing career guidance in higher education have been instructed to train the students in creating email ID on their own. The students could use the high tech labs present in the schools to create an email ID till 31st December. The benefits of email ID and the importance of password protection must be taught by the teachers.
It is known that EMIS or Education Management Information System is a common online platform to connect schools, teachers and students etc. The school heads must ensure that the email IDs get uploaded in EMIS.
