With the commencement of summer, sunny days are on, burning your skin. In parallel are the cooling fruits exclusively fond of growing in April, May months. One among these is the glossy red watermelons. The roadside kiosks selling slices of freshly cut melons grab the attention of commuters, even those who aren’t fond of fruits at all. The hot sun pushes them into these shops to quench their dry throat, longing for a cool flow sliding through.
Among the other summer fruits are muskmelons, oranges, etc. And, as always, tender coconuts are on the high range of sale along the city roads. Turning towards the wholesale market of Koyambedu, here it is filled with the sweet lime, Mosambi that is availed at cheaper rate than last year. “Over 100 tonnes of mosambi arrive at the market every day,” said a shopkeeper here. The fruit is charged between twenty or thirty rupees per kilo. Compared to the rate in last march, this year, it is twenty rupees lesser.
