Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Ltd. (IRCTC) can jump in joy because for the first time 5.8 Lakh bookings were made on 19th. This number surpasses the highest number that was achieved by the site last year on September 2 at 5.72 lakh e-tickets.Presently, the site books more than 4.63 lakh tickets with an average of 9.47 lakh passengers daily as against 3.85 lakh tickets with 6.86 lakh passengers booked daily during 2013. That is a 20 per cent increase in the number of tickets and a 38 per cent increase in the number of passengers.
All these translate into a present daily transaction of more than Rs 53 crore as against Rs 37 crore in 2013, making the site one of the biggest e-commerce sites in the world.
Presently the e-ticketing site books around 50 per cent of the total reserved tickets on the Indian Railways network.
