Civic Infrastructure on Road Network – Taps Rs. 1,392 Crores

Chennai city fritters most of its time on budding civic infrastructures mainly road revamping work by the Chennai Corporation.

During the end of this fiscal year 2013-2014, Chennai Corporation’s outlays on the advancement of the civic broadcastings have reached a maximum of Rs. 1,392 Crores, which is nearly double when compared to the previous financial year of 2012-2013 expenses of Rs. 705 Crores, said a senior official of the Corporation.

Of its principal overheads, the civic body has spent Rs.555 Crores for the road network which is almost 40 percent of the total costs.

Various other details of the Chennai Corporation works include:
  • Development of storm water drains – Rs.260 Crores
  • Street lights – Rs.102 Crores
  • Park Enhancements – Rs. 28 Crores
The Corporation council that has been passed few days ago in the Lok Sabha election has stated a declaration for the progression of 10,000 roads. In several zones, the installation work of street light spans at 6 to 9 meters height is been under way.

The civic spending per head in the city stays around Rs. 2,000 in the fiscal year 2013-2014. Chennai has approximately 285 employees per a lakh of the populace implying the need to rent more, said a civic official.
