A recent study revealed a shocking report that in India, over 62.4 million people are diabetic, but the hard truth is that most of those patients are unaware that they are so. The study was carried out by a Chennai based diabetologist. According to the survey, those working in industrial units at Chennai and Vishakapatnam of the age 35 to 55 are diabetic. The diabetic count is nearly 8741 among men out of which 14.9 per cent men are unaware of their own diabetes. And, 31.4 per cent of the population is unaware that they’re travelling through the pre-diabetic stage.
The journal of association of physicians of India published the report in its April issue. According to Dr. A.Ramachandran, diabetologist, he states this report to be an alert for the people. He said statuses of men from varied social groups are of similar kind and that the condition of women is worse compared to that of men.
