BSNL numbers play tunes to create awareness on voting

In the list of strategies followed by the city corporation to induce the spirit of voting among the public, next to rallies, street plays, football matches and exhibitions, it is now a new approach using cell phone caller tunes. Aiming to create awareness about the need to vote, over 1500 corporation officials have adopted a signature caller tune for their BSNL mobile numbers. The tune goes in Tamil this way – ‘Vaakku alipathud undhan kadamai’ meaning voting is your right in English.
I didn`t know about the caller tune until my friends started asking me about it. It is set to each one of the BSNL mobile numbers by default, said a corporation official. This is set to the staff members irrespective of their designation and the telecom service provider avails this tune free of cost. Speaking to the corporation commissioner and district election officer, Vikram Kapur, he said all field engineers have adopted the song in their CUG numbers.
The tune will get played until elections get over. A BSNL spokesperson said the caller tune is availed upon request from corporation officials.
