The civic body announced few schemes to be implemented in the city well before the poll time starts here. However, it is now of no use as there is no considerable progress in any of those. One such scheme is the beautification of Marina Beach that commenced on first of March. The overall project cost was Rs 47 crore. It included making improvements in Kamaraj Salai junction to Pattinapakkam junction. Widening of road, laying concrete, widening pavement areas, placing decorative lamps, setting up fountains and landscape along the stretch, laying of cycle track, etc were included in the project.
The disappointing fact here is nothing is done till date. Not even the cycle track is laid! Having announced the scheme well before the start of general elections, polls cannot be blamed for the delay in work. Speaking to one of the corporation officials, he said the works will speed up after completion of general election. The works are already in progress, but those are in preliminary stage and hence is not showing any visible difference, he added.
“There is good infrastructure in the beach, but adding enhancements is certainly needed to make it better,” said a businessman in the city.
