In the recent days, most of the schools and colleges in the city has become the core hub for all poll tasks.
Shamianas wrapping up the grounds, campus full of workmen, blockading the grounds and positioning CCTV cameras over classrooms, has now been common across the schools and colleges.
Majority of the schools and colleges serves as venues for polling stations, centres for poll trainings, storage hub for storing electronic voting machines (EVMs) and counting centres.
The Loyola College’s main building ground has become authentic beehive of poll activity. Acting as both the polling and counting center, it has crowded with grids of wooden polls across the main building ground and blockaders by the roads.
Nearly half of the total college classrooms have been involved under the Election Commission. All these preparations will persist for a week after the counting section gets over in May. Since we were clued-up about the poll and counting dates well before, we advanced all exams, conducted special classes on all Saturdays. We have rendered all the needed space to the Election Commission, said G Joseph Antony Samy SJ, Principal of Loyola College.
Another counting center in Anna University will be carried out in the new Knowledge Park. Few institutions, which are particularly for polling stations, have blackout all their academic work from Tuesday evening.
