Traffic has been diverted over the last 7 months due to reconstruction & repair work on the Kodambakkam over-bridge. People have been facing extreme hardships.

Kodambakkam over-bridge links Vadapalani, Nungmabakkam, and Anna Salai. Meenakshi College and Christian college are located on this link. Hence, traffic on this location is very heavy.

Kodambakkam over-bridge started on 1965 and needs a lot of repair work. Experts committee recommended immediate repairs in the year 2011. The planning for the repair work was started immediately. During January, 2014, Chennai Corporation allotted Rs.1.84Crores for this work.

Due to the repair work, heavy-duty vehicles such as buses, Lorries, and trucks are not allowed to ply on the road. They have been diverted to the road adjacent to Kodambakkam station and then to the Rangarajapuram over-bridge.

This round-about route results in extra 1 km distance travel and also heavy traffic jams leading to public suffering. However, 2-wheelers & autos are allowed to ply on the Kodambakkam over-bridge.

This has rendered travelling from T Nagar to Kodambakkam very difficult. Buses have been allowed on the road where only 2-wheelers & autos were allowed leading to heavy traffic, especially in the mornings & evenings.

The apparent public feeling is that the work has not even started! They feel that it might take another 2 years!

A corporation official observed that the over-bridge must be converted to one-way operation for facilitating work completion. This has not been approved so far. Only the work under the bridge has been completed. Work on the bridge is yet to be finished.
