The duration of the graduate course for teachers, B.Ed., and the post-graduate course, M. Ed. has been raised to 2 years. This was announced by the President of National Council of Teachers’ Education (NCTE), Mr. Santhosh Panda.

During an interview session, he further informed:

The prevailing course duration for becoming school teacher is of 1 year duration. Quite certainly, 1 year is not sufficient for the teachers to be qualified for giving high quality education and teaching to the students.

NCTE has recommended that the course duration for B. Ed. & M. Ed. To be raised to 2 years. This is expected to be approved shortly.

Hence, for the next academic year, 2015-15, the colleges have been advised to start 2 year courses for B. Ed. & M. Ed.

Sufficient time would be given to the institutions to implement the syllabus & course material for the 2-year courses.
