Reserve Bank of India has ordered that all ATMs of all banks should have Braille facility for the vision-impaired users and the talking guidance.

The keyboards should have the facility to operate on the Braille system. Recorded voice message providing direction should be made available.

In the year 2009, reserve Bank of India has advised all banks that these 2 facilities should be implemented. The existing ATMs should be gradually changed. At least 1 ATM out of 3 should be having these provisions.

As such, RBI has now ordered that all ATMs should have these facilities before 1st July.

Banks should have planned how to implement keyboards with Braille facility. The banks should have also considered the customers who come in wheel-chairs and how to help them. Sloping paths must be provided. The bank branches should have lens mirrors for the vision-impaired. The location of these facilities should be displayed in all places.

The banks should also make regular reports on the progress on this front to Customer Service Committee.
