The test run between Koyambedu & Ashok Nagar has been completed. Now, the test run between Koyambedu & Alandur is scheduled to be completed before the end of June.
Metro Rail service for the public is scheduled to commence during the 2nd week of October.
Metro Rail Project has 2 corridors. The total distance covered is 45 km. Out of this, 24 km of track will be underground and the balance 21 km will be above ground level.
As a 1st stage, the section between Koyambedu & St. Thomas Mount covering a distance of 11 km above ground level is scheduled to be completed before the end of this year. The work is being expedited to meet this schedule.
The metro rail stations in this section are Koyambedu, CMBT, Arumbakkam, Vadapalani, Ashok Nagar, SIDCO, Alandur, and St. Thomas Mount.
The laying of the tracks and the electrification work is almost complete. The test run between Koyambedu & Ashok Nagar covering a distance of 6 km on a single track was conducted successfully on 14th February. During April, the test run for this section was completed on both tracks.
Presently, track laying has been completed in the section between Ashok Nagar, SIDCO, and Alandur is complete. The electrification facilities are being installed and this is being expedited. It is planned to complete this work and the test run between Koyambedu & Alandur covering a distance of 8 km is scheduled before end June.
Test run between Koyambedu & Ashok Nagar is being carried on daily basis. This test run will be extended up to Alandur before end June. The construction work between Koyambedu & Alandur is expected to be completed by 1st week of October.
As a 1st stage, the public service between Koyambedu & Alandur on the elevated corridor is scheduled during the 2nd week of October (Ayudha Pooja period).
As for the underground section, 45% work covering a distance of 16 km has been completed.Public service for the underground section will be taken up after the dedication of the elevated corridor for public service.
