Mercury Level Taps 40 Degree Celsius!

Even though we have crossed the May month, but still the roasting heat seems to hang around the Chennai city along with the mercury crosses 40.1 degree celsius on Friday.

Since Wednesday, the mercury seems to be constantly rising across the city and suburban areas. In Meenambakkam, the elevated temperature of about 39.8 degree celsius has been recorded, which is two degree higher than the standard temperature for the month.

Though the sea breeze had engraved around noon, it didn’t aid a lot in fetching down the mercury level due to condensed moisture level in the air, said the officials of the meteorological department.

Heavy westerlies threw in to the stable elevation in the mercury reading.

With the commencement of the southwest heavy rain in Kerala on Friday, the city has faced few reliefs from the scorching climate in the past few days. We cannot exclude raise in temperature as pike summer drips over to June also. We have to linger for the heavy shower to press on auxilarily for respite from boiling mercury level, said an official.

Last year, on June 21, 23 and 27, the mercury level reached a maximum of 39.7 degrees Celsius. The unsurpassed peak for the month of June was 43.3 degrees Celsius evidenced on 3 June, 1948.

The department predicts the high temperature will linger to 41 degrees Celsius in course of the weekend.
