Project on Diversion Channel at Anna Nagar- Nears Completion

An extensive project to build a diversion channel resting on Third Avenue at Anna Nagar to reroute stream water from Otteri Nullah to Cooum River picks up pace.

Residents of Anna nagar, who has been urged to take deviation, may not have to confront the traffic desperation for addition of two months, since the Water Resources Department (WRD) board proposes to impart the road on the fulfilled stretch concurrently.

Presently, the construction drive has initiated on the Third Avenue starting from Anna Nagar Roundtana to K3 Police station. 

This box-mode channel work wraps an expanse of about 1,450 meters. This channel will transfer surplus floodwater from Otteri Nullah to Cooum River and put off flooding in the arena of Anna Nagar East.

This project has been proposed during January last year, at a cost of Rs 18 Crores. Delays prevail because of the challenges visage in transferring utility cables and embarking upon huge traffic. A stretch of about 1,100 meters in over already, said an official.

Having accomplished with the construction, which will cross with the projected subway of Metro Rail, the sector is now changing its spotlight to one more hard-hitting stretch where electricity channels interlace the road.

Further down, we need to unearth up to 22 feet and also sought a traffic diversion near K3 Police station to build the channel, an official said. As per plan, the whole project will conclude by September.
