The Chennai city corporation initiates a proposal to craft a tree map across Chennai in a plan to enhance regulation and to spot areas which is badly in need of a better awning.
The trial survey commences in Ward No: 176 in Adayar. This survey will enhance the strength of the matured trees and assists in augmenting the green envelope.
Tree mapping tasks also includes exposing tree misuse activities like the trunk region being cement coated, disgusting metal protectors and cables. Till now, Chennai has no power to curb illegal chopping of trees.
Contrastingly, Mumbai`s Brihanmumbai Corporation (BMC) has a tree conviction group with representatives from civil group, NGOs and residents to save trees. There are no such rules in Chennai, which has upshot in the demur of green cover. Annually, the government pays outs many Crores on plantation runs and after that the trees were left off without any care.
The corporation body doesn`t have any documentation of the count of trees which is been felled. Now, each one can sense the blistering high temperature in the dearth of green cover but no one witnessed to be worried concerning this shocking situation, said Mullaivanam, originator of Tree Bank Trust, an NGO struggling for green zones.
We don`t have adequate skilled employees to abridge trees, said the Corporation officials.
