If an account is opened on the internet with www.tneb.net under a particular name, how many connections will be allowed under a single  name?

Whether the residence is owned, rented or leased, only one power connection can be obtained from TNEB on the internet. There are no legal issues here. We can also register our friends’ or relatives’ name. We can pay their bills also from this account. Data regarding monthly consumption and its trend and the payment for the earlier bills, etc can be read from this.

Can electricity bill be paid in advance?

We can pay in advance even before the consumption readings are taken. This amount will be credited to your account and credited and the balance deducted. The amount under the TNEB’s credit will accrue an interest at 9% per annum.

IS ‘power consumption card’ compulsory while paying the bill?

Meter consumption card is not necessary while paying the bill. However, you must remember the connection number.

Are the bills to be paid in the respective local EB offices only?

Most payment centres in Tamil Nadu have been computerised. So, the bills can be paid in  any office after giving the connection number.

Can credit card or debit card be used?

Cash, Cheque, and Demand Draft payments only are accepted. If the cheque bounces, power connection will be temporarily cut.

Who to approach in case of any doubts regarding bill payment?

The EB accountant or clerk, revenue auditor, accounts officer, and Assistant Finance Control officer can be approached over telephone or in person during office hours. If there are problems, Executive Engineer or the Superintending Engineer or the Consumer grievance Cell can be approached.
