Thanks to a
directive from the Corporation, the corporation schools are increasing intakes.
As a result more than 2500 new students have joined the corporation schools
since the announcement, in the last about 25 days. Procedures for transferring
students from primary schools to middle schools and from middle schools to
higher secondary schools are being simplified to enable students to join at VI
standard from the V and at IX from VIII with minimum trouble. The poor
infrastructure ,growing desire for English education, lack of security and lack of commitment on the part of teacher
are some of the reason that keep the children away from Corporation schools. In
a country where percentage of people living below poverty level is more than
50%, it is the responsibility of the government to provide affordable education
if not free. Teachers must be first taught on their responsibility and their
accountability to learning outcomes of the children study under them.
Government should also be in constant contact with the teachers with regard to
feedback about children, teaching facilities required and available. Most
importantly there should be incentive scheme to encourage teachers to go to
rural areas and facilities like housing and infrastructure should be provided
and free in rural areas.
