The central government has been introducing various measures for improving the general standard of education throughout the country.
The state government of Tamil Nadu (and other states) has also been implementing several measures for this purpose.
Currently, B. Ed. course is offered for the candidates who are graduates (B. A. Or B. Sc.). The duration of this B. Ed. Course is set at 1 year. Similarly, the course duration of M. Ed. is also set at 1 year.
In order to improve the standard of education, it is imperative that the teachers should be efficient and proficient in teaching. Considering this aspect, the National Education Forum has decided to rise the duration of the B. Ed. & M. Ed. Courses to 2 years from the current duration of 1 year.
Various suggestions and proposals for improving the standard of education have been put forward by the different Teacher Training Institutes and their principals or university vice-chancellors. National Teachers forum is going through these proposals and suggestions and then takes decisions.
As one of the measures, the durations of B. Ed. & M. Ed. Courses have been increased to 2 years. This will be effective from the next academic year – 2015-16.
The extended duration will be helpful for training the teachers better and perform better.
