Chennaites can expect rain today because of an upper air trough over north Bay of Bengal. Officials of the meteorological department said clear skies and a delay in the onset of sea breeze had led to a rapid rise in the day temperature over the past few days. Coastal areas like Chennai usually get rainfall due to convective activity triggered by sea breeze, they said. Going by the statistics, Chennai district has, since June 1, received 167 mm of rainfall against the normal of 119 mm.
