Anganwadis turn out to be Day-Care Hubs!

On Thursday, during the Assembly, Chief Minister J Jayalalitha told that, in a prospect of crafting a joyful and lively atmosphere for kids aged from 6 months to 5 years, anganwadis in Tamil Nadu will soon be promoted as Energetic Early Childhood Growth and Learning Centres.

During the first phase of this project, nearly 5,565 anganwadis would be promoted to day-care hubs at a cost of Rs. 55.65 Crores. As per the estimation, approximately 4.5 lakhs children will get benefit from this advancement.

Ms. Jayalalitha also declared that, nearly 211 anganwadis in various districts including Perambalur, Kanyakumari, Chennai, Pudukkotai, Dindigul, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur, Coimbatore, Thiruvanamalai, Thirunelveli, Salem, Vellore and Villupuram districts would be roofed under the Rs. 2.31 Crore project.

Each of these day care hubs would operate together with the head anganwadis and could accommodate 15 children who aged below five years. In addition with the regular food served in the anganwadis, these day care hubs would facilitate breakfast, mini-meals and evening tiffen at a cost of Rs.6 for nearly 300 days, she added.

These new day-care hubs would have surplus rooms, child-friendly toilets, water tanks, toys, rocking chairs and rocking horses, chief minister said.

We have made arrangements for imparting first-aid boxes in all anganwadis at a cost of Rs.2.5 Crores, officials said.

Government has been involved in many Girl child protection schemes so as to lessen the school dropout rate along with the female sex ratio.
