Special counters to help assess file income tax returns will be operated between July 28 and 31, barring July 29, at Aayakar Bhavan in Nungambakkam from 9.30am to 5.30pm.
Salaried assesses in Chennai with taxable income below Rs 5 lakhs can file returns in these counters, while assesses from Kancheepuram and Tambaram circles can file returns at the Nungambakkam office at counters operated for them.
Assesses having income under the head `salaries` are requested to avail themselves of this facility and I-T return forms (ITR-1) can be downloaded from
www.incometaxindia.gov.in
Several nationalized banks will also operate extension counters to enable assesses to pay tax if any. Assesses are requested to incorporate their permanent account number (PAN), bank account number, IFSC code and mobile number in the return.
Only those with taxable income less than Rs 5 lakhs are eligible to file returns manually; those with income in excess of Rs 5 lakhs will have to file their returns online.
