33 special counters were opened in the districts of Chennai, Thiruvallur, and Kanchipuram. Further, 12 counters operate to receive e-filing and 3 help centres were made available for the senior citizens.
On 28th July, when the special counters were opened, 6,700 individuals filed their IT returns.
On 29th July, which was a holiday due to Ramzan festival, the counters were opened and 13000 individuals filed their IT returns.
However, since e-filing facility is available, the number of people coming directly to file returns has reduced considerably.
As today is the last day, greater number of people is expected to file their IT returns.
Apart from this, a facility has been opened to apply for PAN cards through UTI. Any corrections on the old PAN cards can also be made. The applications are available at the special counters; the forms can be filled then and there and submitted.
