reports from CSE (Centre for Science & Environment) are indeed shocking!
The scientists point
out one major reason for these maladies – junk food!
CSE has recommended to
the central government the fast food or junk food shops be closed immediately
at least in the educational institutions!
What is fast food?
The National Institute
of Nutrition defines as fast food as food items which contain no proteins,
vitamins and other nutrients otherwise with high contents of fat & salt.
Recommended
regulations
- CSE has rung the
emergency warning bell to introduce some immediate regulations:
- No
saleles of fast food items in educational institutions and 500 metres nearby.
- Advertisements
on fast food items in medias such as television should be banned between 4.00
PM to 10.00 PM on week days and between 8.00 Am & 10.00 PM during weekends
& holidays.
- Celebrities
should not be allowed to participate in these advertisements or in any
associated business promotion activities.
- School
curriculum should include lessons on the benefits of traditional food and the
negative aspects of fast food.
- Freebies
offered (like toys or games or cartoon stickers, etc) along with fast food
should be stopped.
- A
new act should be legislated to implement the points above.
