The number of beneficiaries under social security pension schemes to protect the vulnerable sections from poverty has gone up by 50% in the past three years, said a report tabled by the revenue department. Currently, 35.38 lakh people get monthly pension of Rs 1,000 each, under various categories such as old age, widows and agricultural workers. The allocation for all schemes has been stepped up to Rs 4,201.9 crore during the last fiscal, the report said.
